President Falah Alwan
Federation of Workers Councils and Trade Unions
Iraq

Dear Mr. Alwan,

We recently learned of the conference which your organization will be holding on November 25 in Basra to form an integrated  union leadership for the southern workers in Iraq and to draft a new labor law to replace the one adopted by the illegal Iraqi  occupation government. We are sending a $50 donation to help  defray the costs of bringing workers to this important conference.

As an organization composed of working men and women,  many of whom are trade unionists, the Freedom Socialist Party sends you our best wishes for a successful gathering. News of your meeting is the first piece of good news that we have heard
in some time from
Iraq. Here in the U.S., we are deluged with TV images of the terrible destruction of Fallujah and the people who  live there. We are outraged that our own government cares so little for human life--even the lives of children and injured men lying in Mosques--that it kills without conscience and purely for
profits
from oil. We continue to do everything we can to end this  terrible and unjust assault on the Iraqi people by the Bush  administration and the multinational corporations.

We hope that your work will lay the basis for a just and peaceful  society, once the American occupiers have been forced to withdraw.  May this day come sooner rather than later.

In solidarity,

Guerry Hoddersen
International Secretary
